I have had so many problems with printers over the years, I just want a printer I can count on!
I need a color printer with a scanner, and something that can print reliably even on heavier paper, maybe even photo-quality prints. I would like something that connects via USB port. Also something that has good software.

Anyone have recommendations?

Oh btw, I use a PC with WinXP (and please don't recommend I buy a MAC ;-)

You should probably go with a Canon. They are the most reliable in the long run and perform well. If you want something kind of fancy, you could try the MP830, which is one of their more popular printers. Not sure if it prints on heavier paper better than any other machine, but it will definitely give you photo-quality prints. If you want something a little less expensive, you could try the MP500, MP150 or the HP Officejet 5610.

Avoid Lexmark/Dell and entry level HPs and Epsons.

I have a Canon MP830 but it now gives me an error code 6500 and the printer cartridges do not move when I open the cover - they stay hidden. I have tried all the things that they said to do - plug and unplug - etc. - nothing!!! From what I read the logic board is gone. More money to fix than buying another printer. Any suggestions

DO NOT GET AN HP all in one, what ever you do. Every single HP all in one I've ever gotten sucked eggs. Not one of them worked right, and none of them lasted very long at all. The price is not worth it. Epson makes great ones, but there is a drawback on those: if you run out of ink and you don't replace it immediately, once you do replace the cartridge, it has been known to not print. Sure, it'll go through the motions, but nothing will print. I've tried everything to get ink to come out, and all I did was lose ink and saved paper, since it always came out blank. I now have a CANON all in one PIXMA MP450. The ink is expensive, but the printing is good.

Hi,
Buy a mac.....sorry...just kidding. I use a site called cheapest prices search engine for two reasons. One they compare prices from almost every merchant on the internet and also brick and mortor stores, and two, they have over a million consumer written reviews.
I really hope this helps you
