Yeah, you probably wouldn't even think about it. I would want someone to save my kids if they were in danger.

Fortunately, this situation does not happen very often. For instance, I could save a child right now by volunteering to give my heart to someone needing a transplant, but I'm not going to, because I still need it. Usually, giving your life to save someone voluntarily doesn't come up -- if you die in the ATTEMPT to save a child, say by shoving the child out of the way of a speeding bus, you didn't voluntarily die -- you did it with at least the subconscious hope that you'd have time to save yourself as well, and just didn't move fast enough.

Yes, I feel like protecting children and the elderly is the job of everyone, regardless of whether or not you know the individual.
As a matter of fact, it's possible I would do it for anyone, I'm not sure though. But definitely for a child.
