Most Dremel's will run 5,000 to 25,000RPM (Revolutions per minute) However, your average electric drill will only fall between 900 to 2000 RPM.

So will the tools work -- yes and no. The dremel tools will fit into the chuck of a drill, but due to the lower RPM the sanders / polishers may not work as well on the hard to sand / polish items.

Also, I am afraid the cutter / engraver tools would not work if you are working with metal because a typical drill just does not have enough juice.

Finally, most typical drills are 2-3 times the size so it makes it difficult working with smaller pieces of wood, metal, etc.

My advice is just to look on the internet for specials on the dremel tool. It would be worth spending the $65.00 in my opinion.

Yes, my husband does all the time. But he says it is easier to use the dremel than a regular drill. He has more space to work with.

I don't think your average drill will spin fast enough for them to really work.

Have you tried looking at the local hobby store, as opposed to the hardware store?
