I have had my tubes tied for almost 10 years, now my period is late I am freaking out, I have a 14 year old and a 10 year old. Is it possible to be pregnant? I was going to take a pregnancy test but I figured it was too soon to tell. Any thoughts on the subject?
SERIOUS RESPONSES ONLY PLEASE!! THANKS.

Yes, the average failure rate for tubals (and vasectomies, too) is .3% (IOW, 3 out of 1000).
A friend of mine had a tubal AND her husband had a vasectomy, and one night she had such terrible abdominal pains that she went to the ER. She woke up from emergency surgery--they'd taken out all of her "female plumbing," because she'd had an ectopic pregnancy, it had ruptured, and she had nearly bled out.
I'm not saying this to scare you. What happened to her should have been a 1 in 9 million thing, at least theoretically.
I had a tubal at a very early age (because I've never wanted kids, period), and mine has never given me a moment of trouble or doubt. Of everything that I have done in my entire life, it's the ONLY thing that I'd definitely do again if I had the chance to live my life over--THAT'S how much I love my tubal. So when I tell you about possible problems, I'm not being your typical "Wailing Cassandra"--I'm just telling you that nothing in life is an absolute 100% for-sure thing (except, as they say, death and taxes).

Possible? Sure. But highly unlikely.
It would seem to me that maybe you're starting to become irregular from possible peri-menopause. How old are you? Is it possible? Many women begin peri-menopause as early as 40.
I had a friend who's mom went through menopause so suddenly (at the age of 41) that she thought she was pregnant. It's not unheard of!
Before you lose your mind completely over this, make an appointment with your doc and get a full physical including a hormone check (blood test).

there is a small risk of pregnancy after tubal ligation. especially after 10 years, sometimes the tubes grow themselves back together, if your period is late, it's not too early to test.. the tests nowadays are really sensitive. I'd say go get a test so you know what is going on for sure as the rate of a tubal pregnancy is very high in a tl patient and could cause you serious problems.

I just had a tubal ligation this year and was told that there is still a 2% chance of conceiving. The only worrisome part is that there would be a higher than normal chance of it being an ectopic pregnancy. So, I think you should make a quick appointment to rule out this rare but very dangerous possibility. Good luck!

I have had my tubes tied a year and my periods are late every month. I use to freak out but now I am use to it. I talk to a dr the 1st time, and they told me to take a test. So wait a bit and take a test. Goodluck!

A friend of mine had an ectopic pregnancy, 5 years after a tubal ligation, she found out she was expecting twins, but it was too late, she lost them.

It is possible....I would try not to worry too much unless you are more than a week late. Then take a test.

My mother had her toobs tied and burned and she had a total of 12 kids. You might be pregnant, you should go check it out.
