They claim victory because Israel did not achieve its goals:
1. Disarming of Hezbollah.
2. Destruction of Hezbollah.
3. Freeing of captured soldiers.
Well, they are getting #3 but that is about it.

In real terms unfortunately Israel did lose.
it lost in the media war and it did not reach any of it objectives mainly to get the kidnapped soldiers back. It agreed to a cease fire which will only help Hezbollah recoup and of course the Lebanese army will never be able to disarm them.
Israel agreed to let unifil troops which in the past have proved they are useless and even side with the Arab aggressors
but mostly 175 Israeli soldiers were killed and the life of one Israeli is the equivalent of 10,000 Hezbollah so 1000 dead Hezbollah doesn't even make a dent in their numbers.

Israel has always been very dominant in every war they have faced. They obviously won this war, but they took some losses, and it took more time than was expected. You have to understand that terrorist organizations like Hezbollah cannot defeat us or Israeli militarily. So they focus on winning the only thing they can- the P.R. battle. With a lot of the worlds media getting their message out for them (the Israelis are war mongers) Hezbollah feels that they won a good part of the P.R. battle. They don't care how many fighters they lose, they are only interested in winning the hearts and minds of other Islamic people. In that sense they did do better than anyone expected (thanks to the media). Don't get me wrong I want to see Hezbollah and others like them get smashed, but the battle is really more to get the message out about what people like them want to do to anyone who doesn't believe the way they do, and refute the medias message that that they have a moral equivalence to the western philosophy of freedom.

They claim a victory in Iraq too. It is propaganda to fool the Muslims into thinking they are winning the war against the infidels and hope to recruit more fighters this way. we all expected them to do exactly that in the end. that's how they maintain their support from their community. the rest of us Lebanese (the silent majority). know for fact that Lebanon was the biggest loser in all of this, it will take us years if we can ever rebuild what we lost this time, and the 1000 dead were almost all civilians for the record. please don't think that those ignorant idiots you see celebrating in the ruins, represent the Lebanese public. most of us Muslims and Christians wanted Hezbollah to disarm along time ago but weren't able to do that diplomatically and so we all pay the price by having our country destroyed and being forced to leave. they are supported by Iran and Syria, and the poor shia community in lebanon.

Hizbollah was not completely toppled, so by their mere survival they will claim power over the militarily superior "aggressor" much in the way that the communists claimed victory in Viet Nam after the U.S. withdrew.

Just wait till Iran gets that nuke up and running... it was your traitorous peoples that sold the technology to the soviets in the first place... or have you forgotten Ethel and Julius Rosenberg... Actually it was mostly civilians killed on both sides. They claim victory because they are playing the same game our government does of spewing as much propaganda at their population as they can to build support among their population. Neither side won anything except a few extra graveyards.
