to be honest with you changing the gearing will not affect the horse power. You can opt for a lower gear ratio at yrou final drive and get more 'virtual horse power' however this will result in shorter gears and you will end up red lining quicker.

my suggestion is leave the gear ratio alone ford designed it that way because it was optimal for fuel economy.

In the case you were reering to an automatic and installing a chip, again this wont help the milage as ford tunes cars liek that for optimal milage

Changing final drive gears on your Focus could actually cause it to get WORSE fuel mileage, to say nothing of the time and money you would have to spend to open up the transmission to replace gear sets..

The engineers at Ford Motor Company spent a lot of time and effort designing the drivetrain on your car to give you a balance of the best possible mileage while still giving adequate street and highway performance. Changing gears could only end up costing you money in the long run.

There might be higher geared Focus transmission gears but are you willing to completely tear down the transmission to replace the Manual transmission main shaft and final drive gear around the differential. Automatic transmission also has to be split in the middle and two gears replaced to make a gear ratio change? Focus should get 30+ miles to a gallon and are slow enough already so but a big gear in there and make it take off even slower
