It would encourage more people to rate questions and answers, because people really dont rate as much as they should, and the community really doesnt benefit from seeing 1, 2 or 3 ratings. The person doing the ratting should recieve some sort of reward, and so does the person getting the ratting. It would do alot to encourage ratting, than how it is now. Do you feel the same way.

They need to do something because as it stands now the new ratings system is pointless (pun intended). Nobody goes back and checks to see if there answer got a favorable rating or not and honestly 99.9% of people don't care. Also, getting a bad rating isn't going to stop people from asking a dumb or bad question.

Until recently, you got a point for rating the best answer on a resolved question. Now they have expanded rating so you can rate both the question and all the answers, but there is no reward for doing so. I'm not sure how that's going to work out.

That would be qualitative. OK points for OK answers, good points for good answers, high ratings for better answers, makes sense. But that is not how it works right now. They did use to give 1 point for a rating.

The higher your rating, you should get more points. You should get points if your Best Answer rate is higher that others, or if you maintain. But, Alas Life is not fair.

If the point system was a little better, MAYBE the answers would be better...as well as some of the questions.

Maybe they should be rating THE questions/answers and taking points for the unintelligent questions/answers and not the way it is going now.

I agree with you. I find myself voting on closed questions and I get to the point where I am getting bored and start voting for the best smart a$$ answer instead of the best answer.

yes, I do, and I have been doing it...ever since the new system has gone into effect, I have been doing it...I wish it'd been here before....I'm getting the chance to also go back and give thumbs down to the smart allecks who give inane answers just to rattle peoples' cages or try to be funny [which they are not!]

I agree.
I rate answers because some that the voters choose are just plain STUPID, and I let them know what I think.

I agree ... at least we used to get points for giving ratings, now we get nothing. What a sham!
