In over 30 years of visiting France, I have found the French to be gracious, interesting and enjoyable people, provided they are not confronted with boorish Americans who want to know why they can't have ketchup to put on their baked fish. Are there some rude and surly people in Paris? Sure. Been to New York lately? We've always made an effort to accept their culture as is and they appreciate it. For the best experience, get out of Paris and stay in the French B&Bs in the countryside. They are all part of a national registry system and we have had the best times staying in their homes, even though our French is most limited. They really love to help you plan local sight seeing. My wife got sick once in the Alps and our one-night stay turned into five days with this family. They were so helpful and caring, making special soups and helping me with doctors.

Warning though, discuss world politics with care. The French seem to love America and Americans, but hate our politics. It is sometimes a very fun conversation however. They can be even more critical of thier own.

And, oh the food!

I have a great deal of respect for French people and the French culture. In America this is not currently popular because the French Government has not gone along with the GW Bush led invasions in the middle east, but my position is one that if everyone in the world agreed on everything how boring would that be. I think it is ridiculous to bash an entire people because they don't agree with your ideology. I think it makes Americans look stupid.

I was in Paris for 3 days last week and I heard a lot of people tell me to be ready for some rude snobish behaviour. The French did not live up to this but were instead helpful and friendly. My wife and I had a great time and would not hesitate to go back.

French people get a thumbs up from me.

Indeed very stylish and elegant. Smart too, many scientists throughout the past were french. They are famous of being rude, especially the taxi drivers downtown Paris. They are very proud of being french. They love thier language, where I do admit it is the most beautiful and romantic language of all. C'est tout .. Au revoir.

I went to France last year and thought the people were really nice. You can't judge most of the people there based on what a few say in the media.

My entire family is from France. I am a first generation American. So I guess on a technicality I have to like them, however, I really could care less. In about twenty years, they'll come around to kiss our asses again once we've rescued them from some other crisis.
