Hi, I have really bad period pains and I've heard going on the pill can help, how does this help? Also I think if I ask my mum if I can go on the pill for that reason, she will think I'm having sex as I'm 14 and have been going out with my 17 yr old boyfriend for 9 months, my mum is fine with this but we are not having sex. I don't want to go and get it behind her back as if she finds out she will probably jump to the conclusion I'm having sex. How can I ask her if I can go on it? Please help me! Thanks in advance x

Tell your mom about the pain. You can get an appointment with a gynecologist, who might have some other ideas besides the pill. Sorry to hear about your pain, BTW.

Most Family Planning Clinics have no problem prescribing birth control pills to girls without parental consent. Talk to your mother first, and tell her how painful it is, and try to get her to agree with you and take you to a doctor to make sure that your painful periods aren't caused by a serious medical condition.
If not, go to a free clinic and tell them the same story.
You are 14, so obviously, your mom is going to freak out a little bit. Just stay calm and explain that you are not having sex, but are seriously concerned about your health.

All you can do is be upfront and honest with her about it. If you sneak behind her back then she will for sure think you went behind her back for a reason.

It helps because it often makes periods lighter and not last as long. Last year I was on them and my periods were very light and lasted two days. I went off of them about 8 months ago and now my periods are normal again - last 4-5 days with normal to heavy flow.

going on the pill regulates the hormones your period gives out. but the pill has been known to eventually cause breast cancer. there are much better products with little to no side effects, but you have to tell your doctor that you don't want on birth control, otherwise, that's what they will prescribe.
