If you have spare money, consider a hardware upgrade (more RAM for instance).

If you don't want to spend money on it then just clean your computer.

- Remove programs you never use (Start -> Control Pannel -> Add/Remove programs)
- Clear your temporary internet files (in Internet Explorer: Tools -> Internet Options -> Clear Files -in the temporary internet files tab- )
- Run a computer scan to make sure you dont have spywares, trojans & viruses. There are free, online scans avaible.
- Defragment your computer
- This is a bit more technical but if you can make it so you dont have a dozen programs running in the background. This can be done with: Start -> Run -> msconfig. Then there should be a tab that reads startup or boot (NOT BOOT.INI) with lots of checkboxes that are either checked or unchecked. Most dont need to be checked, keep only the important programs that should always be started when you turn your computer on (firewall, antivirus, etc).

Good luck!

impossible to say without knowing all the specs........ try the online system optimisation tests @ http://www.pcpitstop.com

But simplest upgrade to speed things up is to stick in more RAM + defragment the hard disk & run anti-virus/anti-spyware scans regularly
But NOT "Norton/Symantec" anti-virus/anti-spyware stuff...... that has a reputation for slowing systems down big time.... try ZONEALARM INTERNET SECURITY SUITE + "SPYBOT: Search & Destroy".

If you want to speed things up ALOT more, check out some of the goodies available at an online retailer such as http://www.overclockers.co.uk

Dump your temporary Internet files. Go to tools, Internet options, delete files, and also check the box delete off line content. It won't get rid of anything important, just stuff your computer is storing that you don't even know about.

You can either delete things that's on your computer that you don't need to free up some space or your can install more memory into your computer. If you can afford it, replace your tower for a more updated version.
