If you're worried that it's poisonous it probably isn't. The only black colored poisonous snake in that part of the country is a Cottonmouth (Water Moccasin). Odds are that it's not one though since there are so many species of snakes in that area. I have attached a link to a site describing the Cottonmouth for your reference. If you have any doubts about the snake then definately stay away from it.

kingsnakes or black racer

kingsnakes tend to be bigger or fatter i dont really know about black racers i've never seen one
