Its that you probably have run downn the stairs most of the time ur brain jus repeats what u remember it becomes a HABIT and it's an autonomic response, your body's way of trying to keep you from falling over.

That's called "inertia". Everything has some inertia, which is simply resistance to a change of state (stationary to motion and vice versa). So also you have some resistance to changing from running (motion) to stopping (stationary).

me too,i don't understand it either...i think its cos its downhill..i can't seem to stop myself running down hills either,same as i find it hard to make myself run up a hill..although having said that i find it hard not to run up stairs..perhaps we're just energetic types.. or else it is a gravity thing..???

You must lean forward a bit taking you off balance there for you run to stop yourself falling. try staying upright or lean slightly back.
