I would hope I'd take it to the nearest law enforcement office who has jurisdiction in the location where I found the money, and turn it in. I learned way back in the very early 1960's, when I was riding my bike and found a man's business papers lying on the street in plain view, that to be helpful instead of devious or greedy, is the best way to operate. The man sent me a "Thank You" letter with a $5.00 bill in it as a reward. Now, in today's economy, a $5.00 bill might not sound a lot, even to an approximately 10 year old boy, as best I can remember being, but back around 1960-'61, a $5.00 bill was a whale of a lot more valuable than it is today, and to a 10 year old boy, that was REALLY BIG!! BUT, you know what REALLY made me feel good? My dad read the letter with me while he sat in his favorite chair in the living room, and when he did, and handed me the $5.00, he also looked up at me and showed a slight smile and an awesome look of pride in his son, and THAT was, and still is, worth more than all the $5.00 bills, or thousand dollar bills you or any government could ever print. God Bless Honesty. And God Bless you. And God Bless my dad who died last March 1st after a long and relatively healthy life.

Assuming it could not be returned to its rightful owner, I would buy a dishwasher (mine is broken). The rest (not much) would go into the bank and/or be paid toward my credit card bill. To me, this would be VERY exciting because I would not have to wash dishes by hand everyday. (poor me) {being dramatic!}
