IF the '08 election actually takes place...and the current administration doesn't permit some disaster to occur to postpone it (perhaps indefinitely) and IF we are talking about a candidate who is actually elected, unlike the current administration, which was "selected" in '00 by the Supreme Court and which defrauded the American public in '04's election -- big Ifs -- then, I think we'll get a Democrat, assuming there are some good candidates.
Those still loyal to the base individuals who have taken America far from its purpose will always overlook their crimes and iniquities: serious violations of the U.S. Constitution, fraudulent reasons for starting a war, the failure of those who willingly send others to their deaths to have served in the military themselves, the slandering of heroes, massive theft that has taken the country into great debt (from great surplus) in five years, perverted prisoner of war policies involving torture and degradation, secrecy (about things Americans have a right to know), and America's decline as a respected world leader.
Therefore, in whatever direction this group of voters is pointed by calls to God and fear and patriotism, they will trod blindly. When a person looks evil in the face and calls it “good,” hope for their help on the journey ahead is futile.
In a free election, I think Americans will show, by a large majority, that they reject the policies of the current administration and want a president who will work to bring back a nation of the people, by the people, and for the people.

The democrats will not take control of congress this year. Nobody is ready for Nancy Pelosi to be the Speaker and 3rd in line for Presidency.
As far as 2008, I would love to see Rudy Guiliani run for president. If he does Republicans will win. The only democrat that could win in 2008 is Joe Lieberman. But he's not gonna be a democrat for long. Americans want security, and the republicans appear to be the only party united on this issue. The Democrats have become the cut and run, wave the white flag, un-united party.

We have a situation similar to 1972, where we were involved in a nasty war and had a good economy. A Republican was re-elected easily. I would be surprised if the senator from Arizona or the former mayor of New York City were not elected. It will be difficult for the democrats to win much in November because usually 95% of congress is re-elected.

Personally I can't wait, this is going to be an intense election. I'm more curious who is going to be the front runner for the Dems than the Republicans, as Hillary has no chance and Al Gore has been making many behind the scenes moves. On the Repub side Pataki and Romney have been just as busy as Gore has behind the scenes.
Since the admittedly devisive Bush will be gone in 2008, it leaves both parties with a clean slate (if either of them has that) on which to build a candidate's image.
I was hoping for a Hillary v. Condi race, I'd love to see how both parties would sell their candidates because as both candidates sought to pick up voters from the middle it'd be interesting how the traditional lines of attack would change since both are women and one is a black woman (who is also a Republican). It would be a wonderful experiment in American politics since so many of the traditional ideas of what these 2 parties are would fly out the window. I guess we can just wait and see.

I think a Democrat should be elected, but God only knows how Americans think. They'd probably elect Bush for a third term if they could. John Kerry should have been elected last time around. He knew how to talk to the public, sincerely, and without a perpetual smirk. And his ideas were sound.
I hope that Congress won't fall to the Republicans - right now it's a fifty-fifty split. Not good either.

Well for starters, you assume good ol' W can run again. He can't, its impossible. Comically, his brother Jeb was/is a much better candidate than George, but due to his name, will never get elected. If the democrats pull another John Kerry, they will for sure lose. If the democrats run Hillary Clinton, they will lose. If the GOP runs McCain, they will win. The main problem is the democrats are all over the board on what they want to do, their party has no unity.

Personally I really loath the Republican vs. Democrat debate because they both only really serve the special interest groups that got them elected. Vote Republican to get reemed by big oil and military industrial complexes or vote Democrat to get reemed by insurance companies and trial lawyers. We need encumbants voted out more than anything.
