I buy about 30 gallons a month purified for drinking at a cost of approximately $20 and the rest for washing I get from my dehumidifiers which run on electricity. I think every gallon I get out of them costs around $0.25, but I use the dehumidifiers to dehumidify so most of that cost goes back into dehumidification - the water is just the reusuable by-product that actually ends up covering the cost of my electricity used to run them.
