So my Powerbook has developed this problem where it will just shut down into 'sleep mode'. It's as if it runs out of power, but the battery will indicate that it's at 90% or higher, and it will be plugged in. Sometimes, when it drops into 'sleep' mode, it will 'wake up' when I push a random key, but will then shut back down within 5 seconds or so. Eventually, it will be stuck in 'sleep' until I detatch the battery and unplug the adaptor, forcing it to turn off. Then, when I turn it back on, it will often shut back down before even fully opening.

I've tried the method of unplugging/removing battery and holding the Power button for 5-10 seconds. Didn't help. Apple wants to charge me $50 to talk to them for technical support. Do I need to send this in? Anyone know what's causing this?

Any help is appreciated. This is the most annoying computer problem I've ever had.

Change your power setting so it will not go to sleep mode. if this is no good. it sounds like it could be a cooling issue. Maybe a fan went bad. I think the apple CD that comes with it has a bootable CD that will run a hardware test. try it out.

sign up for Apple's information superhighway internet site. Then once you're on it flow to assist>Discussions and placed up a query interior the section it is maximum suitable. I surely have an iBook myself and after leaving it in my briefcase for 3 weeks became off yet nevertheless charged I became it directly to replace it to the hot version of Yahoo Messenger and it performed dumb on me for a couple of minutes by utilising doing no longer something till now it became on. Then it ran basically high-quality.
