I agree with you 100% about the computer... However I do not remember how I ever coped without my mobile phone! I currently carry around with me, an alarm clock, the internet, a walkman, video games, several albums and all of that on my little mobile phone, which fits into my pocket. It is amazing when you think about it.

I just wish I had realised the potential of the mobile phone like John Caudwell did (he owned phones 4 U and sold it last week for 1.4 billion pounds, he started the buisness with a couple of hundred pounds)!

I remember when i was a teenager (a little over 10 years ago). It was so embarrassing when boyfriends called as my dad would always answer the phone and embarrass me. If I wanted to make a call I would have to either be listened in to by my dad or would have to go and queue for the phone box in the rain!

Think of all of those people who died at the WTC on 9/11. If mobile phones had not been invented, how many people would have got that last call from their loved ones?

I do truely think the invention and mass production of the mobile phone is simply amazing!

The microprocessor that underpins the computer and many other appliances, yes, I guess so. But taking advantage of invention is called innovation, and when you think that Apollo 11 went to the moon with less computing power than we have in the average mobile phone, you have to say that we haven't taken advantage of our new technologies to stretch ourselves or explore. All we've done is kill each other with it. The Internet is a child of the chip too, and again, it's been a mixed blessing. Sorry, rant over.

I would also say the PC. When computers were able to go to the public the world did make a major change in the way things ran.

I can't think of anything that has been invented that has made life better since 1970. Everything just makes life more difficult. Such as speed cameras and increasing use of technology to spy on us.

I suspect that mapping the human genome will be the winner when looked back on in years to come, although hopefully recognising and acting on climate change in a timely fashion will come a close second!
