Yes, you think that you do. But believe me when I say this, you NEVER NEVER really do know them. After 24 yrs of marriage I just found out that my husband has been cheating on me for 19 yrs. All I ever told people was not my husband he would never do that .But to my surprise I was WRONG!!!!! You will NEVER NEVER truthfully know someone completely.

I don't think time is an important part but it does help because situations arise and you learn just a little more about the other person. I hear of couples after 20 years of marriage are still able to look at the other person and say "I don't even know you." Granted that's due to marital issues of infedility. But who really can say they know the other person inside out? Even the most honest of people have secrets. I probably know about 99% of my husband. The 1% doesn't bother me, perhaps I wouldn't want to know that part of him.

You can know a person in a short period of time if you pay attention to their actions & ways. Being with someone a long time can help you menic them without even knowing it because of the closeness of the relationship.

My parents have been married 53 years today and I still hear my Mom say....
I don't know why your Father did that....
So I don't think you ever know a person really. You may think alike, or have the same preferences and you can always second guess them on things....but to "really know them" I would have to say no.

I've known my husband since we were kids and we can practically finish each other's sentences, so I guess I know him pretty well. We're both in our 30's.

In general nobody can know everything about one person. Not unless you are a mindreader.
