HECK NO! And just to be sure, why not call the Department of Employment Security's toll free number and verify? How dare they take advantage of you that much!

I don't think that is allowed - at all!! Call ACAS national advice line on 0845747 4747. They are a Government department that deals with Employment Law. They will tell you if your employer is within it's rights to detain you for 15 min a day unpaid!

It depends on your employer and your contract. My 1st job out of school was a sports shop and they used to keep us 15 mins after work to clean up and we had to be there 10 mins before our shift started for a meeting every day, however our contract said we had to be flexible so we couldn't say anything.

If you did NOT take a lunch, they may be able to because by law you have to take a lunch. This is probably a "case by case" thing though. At my work, if we don't take lunch, they actually take a 1/2 hour anyway :(

not unless it is in your contract of employment. You should work the hours your contract states and get paid at the rate your contract states.

No, and according to my uncle in Illinois at least. They are supposed to pay you for your prep time. So if you have to change at work, etc... your supposed to be payed. So clock in when you walk in, clock out when you walk out!

Your employer is required to pay you for every minute you are required to be at work.
