My son didn't hold his own bottle either. Do you use the bottles with liners? I think that is why my son never held his bottle because they become accustom to wether it is up or down they are getting milk anyways. I wouldn't worry about it too much because you will be taking away the bottle soon anyways and you can always get them sippy cups with straws so they don't need to know how to tip it. It took my son till he was 1 1/2 till he knew he had to tip something to get fluid out.

If you're using Avent bottles, they make an attachment to put on the bottle that gives it handles. I would try this, and then slowly start weaning her off it and onto a sippy cup with handles. Sometimes it's not good for the baby to be on a nipple for too long.
She'll be fine. Talk to her Dr. about it and get their opinion. Just let them know you're concerned. If she's developing normally in other areas, don't worry about it too much. Every baby is so different.

How big is the bottle? Maybe try a small 4 oz. bottle and don't help her support it. If it falls give it back, but let go. She needs to know feel responsible to hold it. Also, it's just about time for her to give up the bottle anyway. Try sippy cups and see how she does?
Is she crawling or walking yet? If not you might ask your pediatrician about it at the 1 year check up.

Don't complain and hold the bottle for her. Listen, She's still a baby even if she will turn a year old soon. Let her be little. She enjoys it when you help her. It's cozy to her. She will grow up before you know it, so enjoy holding her and her bottle as much as you can. I'm sure she'll hold the bottle herself soon. My son is a month older than your daughter and he didn't stand up before he was a year old!! Babies develop and do things at their own pace.

my baby rarely holds his own bottle, and he's 14 months. He can and will, but I still hold it for him while he drinks his milk before his nap and bedtime. Make sure the bottle is smaller and light enough to hold on her own. She just likes the comfort of you doing it. If she is somewhat "forced" to do it on her own, and she wants the bottle bad enough, I'm sure she will do it by herself.

Don't hold the bottle for her anymore. If she feels that you will do it for her she thinks why should she do it. It will not be easy at first, but she will do it. Every child starts different things at their own pace, but most babies are already using sippy cups at her age. Not to discourage you, but you may be babying your baby a little too much.

Stop holding the bottle for support?
Your baby is smart, she's already figured out that Mommy will do the work for her! LOL

Start training her to use a sippy cup while sitting in a high chair or baby seat. You need to get rid of the bottle at a year anyway.

Maybe try a cup? Does your child otherwise feed herself? If not, turn her loose with a tray of cheerios. Maybe she'll "discover" self-feeding. Perhaps introducing a cup--and don't hold it for her--she might learn to mimick you rather than wait to be fed. Maybe? The nice thing about troubleshooting baby issues that you try this and that, and eventually the child grows out of it, and you never know what you did that "worked"--if anything!

At age 1, she should no longer be using the bottle. You need to start on sippy cup, it will show her how to be a big girl.
