G'day Colin M.,

Thanks for the question.

The song is Going Home the theme from Local Hero, a 1983 film set in Scotland. It played at the end of the film. The song was composed by Mark Knopfler who is a Geordie and was lead singer of Dire Straits who were very popular in the UK at the time.

The song was an instrumental and the Local Hero soundtrack was actually more popular than the film. Rolling Stone stated in its review that it was "an insinuating LP of charming, cosmopolitan soundtrack music – a record that can make movies in your mind." I'd also recommend you rent the DVD or video of the film if you can get it.

Mark Knopfler has actually played the song live at St James Park for the opening of the Alan Shearer bar.

I have attached some sources for your reference.

Good luck to the Toons for 2006/07.

Regards
