despite what i'm doing on my computer, the screen often turns black and flashes sort of. if i look closley i can still see the screen as it was; i never loose any information. if i close the screen and reopen it the color is restored. also sometimes if i tilt the screen on my notebook in a different direction it will work better. what could be the cause of this? also it will go for long periods of time and be completley fine...it's very random.

There is a cable connecting the screen to the rest of the computer... After enough bending from the laptop being open and closed, it can get broken or pull looses from a connector.

All very fixable. Take it in and get an estimate beofe it breaks completely.

If you have a nextel phone, set it away from the screen. Actually, a lot of different cell phones do it if they are too close to the screen, nextel is the worst though.

If your cellphone is no where near the computer and it does this, get a new screen.

The problem sounds like it is in the connection from the CPU to the screen. Maybe there is an intermittant open between these two point.

i had this problem too. i had a compaq armada. i had it repaired and they told me that this model had a bad engineering design. a couple of months after it was fixed, the problem came back. it wasn't worth it to have it fixed again, so i just have to close and re-open the screen every now and then...
