I heard it was better to get an ear cartilage piercing in a tattoo parlor where they use hollow needles instead of the "gun", which can cause trauma to the tissue and slow its healing. I had a piercing by the "gun" and it refused to heal over and finally got so bad I had to take it out and was wondering if a hollow needle would be better.

Also, how much would this cost in a tatoo parlor? I know it's somewhere around $35 at the mall and it comes with a free earring.

The hollow needle is important because it takes out the chunk of bone that is left inside by a gun. When the gun pierces your skin it breaks off the cartiladge into your skin and the cartiladge sits in there. The hollow needle - besides being sharp instead of dull like a gun - makes a nice cut through the cartiladge, AND, any cart pieces get sucked into the needle which then gets thrown away.

Price depends on your area, a lot of places in Nashville TN charge 20$ for above the belt piercings, but that does not include jewelry. Make sure you specifiy which gauge you want.

Hollow needle removes the extra cartilage so that it doesn't just "shove" it out of the way. Cost depends on where you are at. The tat place near me charges $30 including the earring, per ear. They do generally heal better, and the piercers know how to avoid nerves in the ear. Even for non cart piercing, I've heard hollow needle is better.

30 bucks including jewlery. Hollow needle is way better. When they gun it's increasing the chance of an infection., cause that gun has been used on more than one person. I know that they change the earring or whatever, but still they can't change the gun. Hollow needles are safer cause when you get your cartledge peirced it makes the hole bigger and the earring actually is so it will heal better. There is less chance of infection to cause the needle is used one time then it's tossed.

definite they do. Claire's is basically allowed to pierce the "outer ear"-the lobe and cartilage-no longer the tragus or something like that. even nevertheless, they use the Gun and that may no longer mentioned for the cartilage-it may shatter the bone, inflicting gruesome bumps to sort. that's greater proper on your well-being (much less risk of an infection) to circulate to a specialist at a tattoo parlor, they use a hollow scientific needle, which additionally hurts under the gun.

ahhhhhh noooo!!!!! dont get it done with a gun!!!! they arent even sterile!!!!!! when you get it done with a gun, it rips your cartalidge makin the hole jagged around the edges and they take FOREVER to heal. I highly suggest that you go to a tattoo parlor. around here it only costs about $25 bucks to get it done..earring included. i know a good bit about piercings. i have 2 cartalidge(not including my horizontal industrial) and a nose ring.
