I would also recommend looking around Victoria station: good transport links, lots of local restaurants, a new shopping centre and free currency exchanges, and easy access to places like Chelsea and the West End. You could go to www.yell.co.uk and search for B & Bs, guesthouses or hotels in the area code SW1V.

Around Paddington is nice and you can get some "no too expensive" hotels and a good transfer with the tube. My favourite hotel is "The London Elizabeth". But you shouldn´t book directly at the hotel (except they have the special offer $=GBP). If you search for that (or other) hotels in internet you´ll find better offers. So I´ll pay now 100 Euros ($130) instead of about 200 Euros.

The London Elizabeth is located in a typical Victorian house. The tub "Lancaster Gate" is on the other side of the street and the Kensington Park is also infront of the hotel. Breakfast is a little buffet (and much better and more than normally in London). You can order English breakfast for an extra rate.

Don´t pay too less for a hotel or less than 3*!

There are several bed and breakfasts around Victoria Station that are nice and close to everything in London. They do not cost an arm and a leg to stay there either.
