Naturally occurring glass has been used since the stone age. According to Pliny the Elder, the Phoenicians made the first glass as early as 3000 BC. However, there is archaeological evidence to support the claim that the first glass was made in Mesopotamia. Glass beads, seals, and architectural decorations date from around 2500 B.C.

The first time the correct volage lighting hit sand created glass. I don't think that was yesterday nor what the glass looked like. But the is a company in Ireland called Waterford Glass and I believe they have it down to a fine art.

The first time a volcano erupted and threw "lava bombs" through the air. They form a skin of glass as the hot lava cools in flight. Or when lava flowed into water and formed obsidian. Or maybe the first time lightning struck sand.

a very hot fire made on a sandy beach...would melt the silicon sand into a "syrupy" paste that could be "worked" until it "cooled" and "set"!!!!probablly while ancient traders were trying to lure primitive villagers outwith a bight light seen from miles around on on an unfamiliar coast to trade from their ships!!!phoenicians are credited with trading very widely with "trade beads" of many colors and patterns!!!the mesopotamians of CITY-STATES like UR ,akkad, nineveh, babylon AND SUMER had walls"filled with rubble;but the facing elements were glass cones laid flat in mortar...these coursed masonry interior walls had 'striped'....'swirled' and 'toothed' patterns'..florals and diaper segmented patterns also!!!
