Because if the sun didn't shine you would be more depressed and nothing would be alive on the planet.
Depression is caused by two things 1) your outlook on life and whether you choose to be happy or sad and 2) a chemical imbalance. If you are not having trouble with #1 then you need to seek medical help so that they can take care of #2.

you got it wrong, the planet isn't depressing, you are depressed. try to look at the bright side of things... atleast you dont have one of these http://www.i-am-bored.com/bored_link.cfm?link_id=19041 check out the sight, funny stuff, perhaps you won't be so depressed afterwords.
