Looking for an answer from a doctor/nurse or a woman who has had an abortion....if there is an infection after the procedure does this affect being able to become pregnant in the future? I read that from an infection the fallopian tubes close making pregnancy impossible. Is this true? Have you had an infection and were later able to have a baby? Thanks

This is strictly a MEDICAL question. I am not looking to go into a morality/ethics debate.

Yes, infection can happen. So can alot of other things like scaring. Why would you want to kill your child now and then have more later on? If you think it's right to kill a child so that you may live as you wish, then you are not fit to be a parent AT ALL. Please, do not kill your unborn and innocent flesh and blood. Think of what that child could be if you don't kill it. They could find the cure for cancer or become president or something really wonderful like that yet you won't even give them the chance to live because you are so selfish.

The great majority of women who get abortions in a clean sterile environment will not develop an infection and go on to have healthy children later in life. Only 1 out of 300 women will develop an infection from a first trimester abortion. (Source link below) However, if you are to develop an infection, there are warning signs that you can look for. Call your doctor and go to the emergency room immediately! If it is treated soon enough and not ignored it may be possible to save your reproductive organs.

yes infections can cause serious complications with pregnancy whether they are related to abortion or just let go for too long if you think you may have an infection tell your doctor immediately to avoid these complications. They are rare and becoming rarer because our doctors and patients are becoming more familiar with these types of complications but I have seen an infection let go for so long that they had to do an emergency hysterectomy. Imagine that kind of operation at the age of 16!!! not fun but not common either. I have seen many infections that were just treated with normal antibiotics they actually use to prescribe them regularly after surgery but they don't anymore just when nessecary. And yes many of them have gone on to have children. The key is getting it taken care of quickly before permanent damage is done.

Just be prepared for some harsh answers. OK, an infection of any kind in the uterus can cause one to have problems with conceiving and bearing a child later on in life. I would call an ob/gyn and speak to them if you do or think you do have an infection.

An infection in the uterus would not necessarily involve the tubes. Infections such as Strep, TB, and Gonorrhea can occlude the tubes. If the infection was treated adequately right away the tubes should be all right.

Having an abortion can lead to complications that can make you unable to have a child in the future. Thats not to say that it happens to all women that have had abortions, many have children down the road.
