Somewhere Over the Rainbow. Hawaiian musician Israel Kamakawiwo'ole recorded a version of the song accompanying himself on the ukelele. His recording of the song (from The Wizard of Oz) has been used in a number of television shows and movies, including 50 First Dates. (For some reason, I think they used it for ER when Dr. Greene was dying in Hawaii).
The song is actually a medley with the song "What a Wonderful World". It is finally scheduled to be released as a single.
Sadly, "Bruddah Iz" (as he was called by his fans) passed away in 1997 at the age of 38. When he died, the 6'2" musician weighed 750 lbs. He was so beloved in Hawaii that his body lay in state in the State Capital and the Hawaiian state flag was placed at half mast.
I agree with you..its a terrific song. I'm not exactly sure if Cheerios is using the original version, or got some studio soundalike to perform it, but its a great commercial.
