Depends on whether it is gold, has diamonds - what kind of ring are you asking about? If it's gold - then take it to a goldsmith. If it is LARGE diamonds, they may be worth more than the gold - so take it to a store that deals in precious gems.
If it's not very valuable - take it to a pawn shop.

A pawn shop may give you about a third of the value of the ring. You may do better with a private sale advertising it in a newspaper, traders, or other weekly.

A pawn shop but dont exspect to get what you paid for it back. you will be lucky to get half if that. You could run an add in your local papper though and see if you can get a response from that. You will probly get more money that way

I took my engagement ring into "oliver jewlers" and he was only going to give me $600 for it. Only to find out that it was worth $9000 so I left with my ring and ended up selling it to a friend.
So my advice, look into it before you make a desision. Go to a few places and see what they are willing to give you for it.

A pawn shop, but don't expect to get what you think it's worth. List it on ebay or run a add in your local paper.
