They don't pay them but they give them Free samples. That is why companies like Tylenol can say that 9 out of 10 hospitals use Tylenol. Not because its better but because it is Free

Officially, no.

Unofficially, they "encourage" the use of their products through things like pre-paid trips to conferences, free dinners where the pharmacutical companies "discuss the benefits" of their new mediciation, etc. The drug-rep dinners are even targetted at medical students to "establish a relationship with future doctors".

The pharmaceutical companies don't pay doctors to push certain drugs but they do offer incentives for them to do so. How do we know this? Because it is cheaper to get the generic which is exactly the same medication but the doctor will prescribe the name brand medication.

Yes they do. However, it is not supposed to be in the form of cash. They will give tickets to games, take them out on insanely expensive meals and trips. Funny enough I am a nurse and I am the one that usually deals with patients and refills. So if the Dr. says call them in something for heart burn......guess what? I chose what I want to call in. Only a few drug reps. realize that the nurse has most of the decision making w/medications.

Of course they do, where do you think the doctors get all those free samples from? There are all kinds of perks offered to doctors to prescibe a certain medication, from free samples, to free notepads, all the way to free trips to sunny beaches. that's what the pharmacy company reps do all day.

I think that the reps bring in tons of samples, the doc's give them free to patients, and the patient keep coming back for free meds, which makes the docs happy, which makes the drug reps very happy, b/c people are using their meds, and the oones with insurance end up paying for theirs, so it all balances out in the end and everyone makes lots of money, and us little people are screwed in the end, like always!
