If you rip a cd you are taking songs from the CD and putting them onto your computer or some other disk as a .WAV of .MP3, or some other type of computer manipulatable file.
If you BURN a CD, you are putting Songs from a computer onto a CD for the purpose of playing in a CD player.

Ripping a CD puts the songs onto the computer. Burning a CD takes the songs from one CD and puts them on another CD.

To RIP a CD is to copy FROM a CD - usually to the Hard drive or an MP3 player....To BURN a CD is to copy TO a CD - they're both copying the files - just in opposite directions.

RIP- is when you remove the contents from the CD and place it onto your computer's hard drive.
BURN- is when you remove contents from your hard drive and place them onto a CD.
When you borrow a CD from your friend and place the contents on your hard drive so you can burn it to a CD later you are ripping. When you insert a CD and place the contents onto the CD you are burning.
It does not necessarily have to be music it can be videos, movies,even large amounts of data like a PowerPoint project.

Burning a CD is when you take a blank CD and fill it with music or whatever.

ripping is taking & copying certain songs off of a cd that's already been made (can be done with windows media player). burning is taking songs off a computer & making a cd with them.
