It does work pretty well for general cleaning, but you still should get a professional steam cleaning at least once every 18 months to remove soil from deep within the fibers and to restore the pile.

Also, most carpet manufacturers require this in order to validate their warranties (save your receipts).

i've used it many a time. I go over the rug more than once and you can tell by the dirt in the water how well it's working. rug cleaning doesn't cost much so I guess it's your budget. you can clean the whole house for one rental, even do your sisters and split the cost. make sure you get all the right chemicals.

You can't. A rug doctor is like 30 bucks for a night, not too much if you can save up. But otherwise, there's nothing you can do.

it works pretty well. your professional cleaners will essentially the same kind of equpiment when they come in to clean. fairly easy and pretty effective if doing it by yourself. kind of expensive though to rent one of those things. might wanna hold off and outright buy one instead.
