The Buffalo Sabres rejected forward J.P. Dumont's $2.9-million US, one-year salary arbitration award on Tuesday, allowing the seven-year veteran to become an unrestricted free agent. Dumont always wanted to play for the Montreal Canadiens.

as a Habs fan, i wouldn't mind signing him but he is not worth the $2.9 million US, in his 7 year career he has 2 times past 50 pts the most was 54 pts, his average would be around 28 to 30 pts a season that's not someone that deserves $2.9 million maybe 1.2 to 1.5 million a year, That's what i think. but i know what he is capable of doing and yes sure we can sign him, but will he become the player we expect him to become this will be his 8th year and who knows he might just be a late boomer.

fugutastic >>>>> he always wanted to play for the Habs as a kid. not just because hes french.

witeyskinny>>>>> the Habs are in Canada. Montreal Canadiens.

I'm still holding out hope that he may play here (Buffalo) for less money. So far no takers on him.

I would in no way categorize him as "marginal". He has a lot of skill and heart and would be an asset anywhere he goes. With so many teams budgets set it's too bad a player like JP is sitting around. He just had a new baby and his grandfather died too, and it must be tough waiting to see what's up.

Anson Carter is in the same boat too.

Where did you hear that? Because he's French-Canadian? He may have grown up a Nords fan for all I know.

At $2.9 million it's pretty pricey for a marginal player. Sure he's good but he's not going to make anyone think he's even the second coming of Mike McPhee.
