this question is practically an oxymoron in and of itself.
the answer is simply this and nothing less:
no one chooses to be straight, no one chooses to be gay. it is just the way people are. human traits can be placed on a spectrum wherein no one lies at either extreme. for example:
sexuality
<----------------------------------------------------------------------->
total str8 total gay
no one lies at the outmost regions most fall somewhere inbetween but can lean to on side or the other with varying degrees. the closer to one extreme or the other a person lies the more dynamically they personify the trait in mannerism, etc. machoism, passive about the issue, feminism, etc.
the only choice that people have in this situation is accepting the truth about where they are in the spectrum of eemotion and living accordingly. public stigmatism made it practically impossible in earlier years to live a life as a gay person openly. as society becomes more liberally minded people become more willing to express the emotions that lie inside them.
the choice is not : "to be or not to be" but rather whether to thine own self be true or not.
hope that makes sense.

Well I didn't make a concious choice to be straight... that is just my genetic disposition... while as gay people [who don't seem very happy so I wonder why they are called gay] suffer from a genetic anomaly... let's face the truth if everyone was gay then the human race would die out... thank god only a small percentage are....

I was born straight.
When did Charles Manson decide to be a cult leader?
When did Moses decide to free the Israelites from Egypt?
When did John Kerry decide to be a draft dodger?
They were all born to be what they are. They only choose to do it to satisfy their desires.
The desires we are born with are strong and we have to choose whether or not we decide to choose them or something else. The norms and standards we grow up with have a lot to do with choosing to satisfy the desires or choose something else.

Well, notwithstanding that older boys from time to time tried to seduced me, it never occurred to me to let them. And those whom I now realize were homosexual teachers did not need to approach me; I suppose they knew their own kind.
Who "decides" these things anyway? Yes, there are men who, in their 50s, realize they cannot stay married and come out of the closet. But that's hardly a significant tranche of the population.
See below for a link to the recent NY Times article on that, "When the Beard Is Too Painful to Remove"

Because it's natural, you don't have to choose it, but you can choose to not stray from it, just as you can choose to not stray from being a law-abiding citizen for whatever reasons. It's a choice, but you don't have to choose to be a straight and law-abiding unless you're tempted or inclined to not be.

You don't "choose" to be straight or gay. Do you really think people just "choose" to be gay, knowing how the world treats gays?
