a shelf bra is like a shelf. it holds your breasts but doesn't cover them. here are some pictures of them: http://images.google.com/images?q=shelf+bra&hl=en&btnG=Search+Images

It is very comfortable.

A shelf bra is kind of like a sports bra, in that it doesn't have cups, but just a single band, usually with a wide strip of elastic underneath.

A shelf bra is usually part of a garment, such as a bathing suit, or a tank top. I have a boatload of tank tops with built-in shelf bras, and I love them!

A shelf bra is one that is built in to the tank top but it provides absolutely no support whatsoever. It actually makes you look like the unaboober. Not so sexy. Try a racer back bra, strapless, halter, or well constructed sports bra. If you go in to a department store or victoria's secret, ask the sales clerks for help or suggestions. good luck

A shelf bra is built into many tank tops, it's basically another short layer of fabric attached at the neckline with elastic at the bottom of it. I would suggest finding a top like this, or getting a good strapless bra.

A shelf bra is like a sports bra without the harness back...the kind that are built in to tank tops sometimes...I can't wear them because I'm a 36D and the weight of my boobs just pulls them down...but if you aren't really large breasted, I've been told they are really comfy to wear...just as long as you don't need a lot of support....

Basically it's a bra WITH OUT the top part.Imagine a underwire push up bra with just the push up and no coverage. Thay also make them in pasties, and gels. Its just there for support to give you the lift .

YES it is comfortable and YES lots of support..

Cheap was to see what one looks like at home pull down the coverage part of your exsisting bra under your GURLS.

Shelf bra is what is (or used to be) built into swimsuits rather than the molded cup. I think it means a soft cup bra, no seams.

hi there. shelf bra.. are you sure that someone just does not want to see you naked? shelf bras are the ones that doesn't have any coverage on the nipple area.. thus, the name implies.. its a shelf-- for your breasts.. and there are wires, a little bit of support but no coverage.. hehehe

i don't know either. get a good skin-colored strapless bra from Victoria Secret. it's worth the extra cash b/c all other strapless bras i have ever tried were so uncomfortable, i had to take them off.
