I used to work as a telephone sales rep, cold-calling. Got chatting to this guy trying to sell him advertising space in our magazine - we ended up gabbing away for nearly 3 hours about everything under the sun except the magazine! Had a real blast. May have led somewhere but he lived in Scotland - I'm in England. Anyway, he didn't spend any money with the magazine, and my boss was none too pleased, but I've never forgotten what a good time we had.

I got a phone call one night from a distant relative, she called to "warn me" that a reading of the will of another relative was the next day - and I should be prepared because she left me about half a million dollars and her grown, already wealthy children are probably going to sue. I asked why this person would leave me so much money and apparently it was because I was always so nice and helped her out, never asked for anything, popped in with the baby once in awhile just for tea and conversation. My husband and I had the most surreal conversation that night about how we would invest the money. The next day I began to wonder why I hadn't been called to the reading, but my mom said it's not necessary.
Anyway, as it turned out, she left everything to her kids - which is prolly as it should be even if they are jerks. I was never mentioned, except for a piece of vintage costume jewellry I'd borrowed years beforehand that was promised to me. I never got it, the kids took everything that was promised to everyone and sold it all for more money.
I spoke to the person that called me just twice more. I phoned her and asked her where she got her info from and she wouldn't tell me so I just said I don't know why you did what you did but it was cruel and please do not contact me again. I saw her about 6 months later at a funeral and all I said was hi.

About thirty years ago when direct dialling from London to Ireland was unheard of, I made an Operator call to Roundwood 2, a small village in the Wicklow Mountains. Imagine my surprise when I got a wrong number - Roundwood 3...........honestly...

When I was at varsity I got an early morning phone call, at like 6am and this woman on the other end says 'The patient in hospital is dead.' I said 'what patient? No one I know is in hospital; who are you calling?' Turned out she had a wrong number. Having such a conversation straight out of dreamland was very surreal!

Many, many years ago I was on the phone with a telephone sales girl and spoke with her for some 6 hours! We talked about everything under the sun, and I don't remember what she was selling or how she got away talking to me for 6 hours.
Such is life.

When I was like 6 I called some company that was selling some like toy I wanted my mum to get me yet she said she wouldn't.
So I called this companies number and asked if they could send me the toy and the woman asked "What toy?" and I was just asking for the toy and she asked how much money I had. I replied with "I don't have money, only tokens".
These tokens were 50p of something at Sainsbury's!
My mum found me and took the phone and apologized to the woman.

A couple of years back my daughter lost her new mobile phone so I rang it and the landlady of a pub answered saying yes, the phone was here it had been left on the bar the previous night. I asked the name of the pub but it didn't sound familiar so I asked where the pub was, it was in Newcastle and we live in Suffolk.
I'd punched in the wrong number and rang another lost phone!

I was an instructor in London in 1992 and suddenly one day I had a phone-call from Cambodia to say that the Khmer Rouge had just kidnapped the husband of one of my students. And it was true!
