maybe they are toys he can play with....maybe god created the other planets so that there can be life LATER....on those planets...for example maybe in time humans can inhabit some of these places.....
also there might not be a god....and the planets may have just come to be.....without a creator...without a god....
or organisms could have lived on those planets prior to humans and then died off and left the planets inhabitable...we don't know

god created so many planets to create a balence on the universe and to give us the humans something to work at and think about. Why do you think we study them people have jobs because of them and alot of people just study them as a hobby. And another thing. All the chemicals in the planets like the gases and the ice jive a balence of temp and gravitational pull that the earth needs. See there is a god and he does everythin for a reason

In Earth we have oxygen,Carbon di oxide, and somany other gases .but humans need oxygen, plants needs corbon di oxide..and so on.. Just like that,In other planets there may be some other gases which we have not invented . there may be other sources / materials which is required for that planet.
Millions of years ago even our planet was very dry,and abnormal temperature.May be after few million years,The other planets also may become like our planet..where there will be new living creatures, and new animals..No one can predecit it. even our human race may settle down in other planets..and our body will start adjusting according to the new planet.

they all work together to make a well functioning solar system to work with a well functioning universe. we should feel special that earth is the only planet here with life. but a couple lightyears away there is a planet that is very similar to earth. whether it has life on it as far as animals, i'm not sure, but God has a plan in all of this i'm sure.

maybe the planets created god,, and they knew what would happen on the planets such as earth with oxygen,,so they decided to keep a few gems to themselves (o2 free) knowing they could never be abused or ruined by us dudes
cheers

Your question is a contradiction. If everything God does has a purpose, but there are billions of useless planets in the world, that must mean there is no God.

What would you do if you were bored out of your mind since you were the only being of your kind? you start making stuff up.
There is only 1 god and he did make everything.
