American High Schools last for 4 years. Most high schools start at the 9th grade/Freshmen year but some high schools do start at the 10th grade/Sophomore year and then continue on to the 11th grade/junior year and finally 12th grade/senior year.

High school is based on credit hours just like in college. So, if the school you attend requires 42 credit hours and you transfer in with 22, you only have 20 to go. Most classes range 1-3 credits. Many people are able to finish high school in 3- 3 1/2 years, but if you have transferable credits you should be able to get done with it in less. Go online to the high school and email the guidance counselor for accurate transfer information. You can get a list of high schools off the Internet by yellow pages schools category.

High school lasts four years. Usually you start when you're about 13 or 14 in the 9th grade and finish 12 th grade when youre 17 or 18. US schools have 2 semesters which begin in September and end in either may or june. i would advise you stay in the UK, the education system is better over there, especially if you would be going to a public school here.

HAHAHA don't even WASTE your time getting you GCSE's A levels or O levels before you move here. We moved to America when i was 14, my brother was 16. He stayed behind for 2 months to finish school only to discover that none of if mattered and he had to do another 2 years! High School over here SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCKS and if i were you you i would just come over and get your GED!! or don't move here at all would be the best option it sucks, england rocks and i miss my home! Bring me a real chip butty with some curry sauce when you get here ok?

All these people are telling you grades and obviously they are ignorant to the fact that there isn't grades in England its years, but until you are 18!! stupid i know!!

Four years. But since you're 16 depending on how they transfer your credits you'll probably only have maybe 1 or 2 years left 3 years at the most. Good lucj

The sarcasm of the others aside, you need to check with the school you are planning to attend to find out the dates for each school year. Most start the year in late August and run through the end of May. Start dates and end dates change by local school systems.

A 16-year-old would be in 10th grade here (or possibly 11th, depending on your birthday), but you have to get through 12th grade to get a diploma. That means you'll likely be 17 or 18 when you graduate.
