Most doctors these days try not to check your dilation unless you have been having contractions pretty regular. The process of checking the cervix can cause infections and other complications if done too often, especailly if the mucus plug has come out.

I wouldn't worry too much. 1 cenimeter is only half the size of your little finger. Ten cenitmeters is about four fingers. You have a ways to go, especailly if you are not in labor.

Once you are in labor, the doctor will be checking you alot, or the nurse. And it can cause some irritation from the sterile glove they use.

Your going to be just fine, and the doc knows what's best.

Oooh weee!!! Just a few more days! How exciting! How exciting!! It is okay that he's not checking. He's keeping things until the last moments and that is what a lot of Dr.'s do. TELL HIM your concerns, Mamma... I mean you're paying for his next vacation!! (sorry but I can say that, my husbands an intern.) Many docs don't want to check down there as it increases the risk for infection. The hospital is when it comes down to it. Peace.

My Dr. didn't. The nurses did everything until it was getting close to time for the baby to come. In fact nobody checked how dilated I was until I was checked into the hospital in full labor. It's normal for you to be slightly dilated already. The Dr. won't be concerned about it until labor actually starts and neither should you concern yourself. Good Luck.

P.S.- Getting checked "down there" sucks anyway, it was so uncomfortable and at the point where they kept checking me I felt as if I had no dignity left whatsover. Don't be anxious for them to be poking and prodding at your privates.

Not sure...you may want to call the office where your doctor works and ask what their policy is. I have always been checked at 36 weeks till delivery day.

Honestly, I would be thankful. Being invaded like that by strange people and poked and prodded around in that area was the LAST thing I wanted at that stage. You're close enough that when labor happens, it happens, you know? Don't freak out. You'll know when you're dilated. It's called labor.

It's really the doc's discretion. It's also best to do as little of the invasive procedures as possible. 1 cm still leaves a long way to go and sometimes that takes weeks. Relax. When it's your time you'll know it.

All dr. are different. If there isn't really a reason for concern about when you go into labor, he might not check you at all. Ask him about it. That is what they are there for. YOU! and to awnser all of your questions.

not normal, the doctor should have been checking u especially if you already had to be monitored. I would try a new doctor for your next pregnancy.

not sure every doctor is different plus the doctor might want the same person to check you every time cause everyone checks differently plus everyone has different sized fingers
