ABSOLUTELY. Read about the Takeda Abbott Corporation kickback scandal that ultimately ended up changing the face of medical ethics (after TAP paid out over a record $875MM in federal fines upon being convicted under the RICO act). Yet, doctors still get "honorariums" and "incentives" to Rx certain meds - all at the expense of the patient. This includes attending lavish "educational" seminars and conference sponsored by the industry, in which they are comped for their stay and provided with upwards of $1000 sometimes just for attending.
Not, not all docs do it. But many do, and don't even realize it's compromising their patient's right to choose the best option for their own healthcare (by promoting one particular therapy over another). It's not just Rx co's, but industry (medical supply, devices, etc.) overall.
It's a sordid little affair, what goes on between the industry and the Rxing physicians. There is a ton of literature out there which you might enjoy reading.

Well, they have been doing thing to make DR prescribe medications for a while. Wonder how those pens and coffee mugs get the Drug logos on them. Every wonder how the DR can give you samples of a drug. So monetary kick backs would not be out of the realm of possibility.

Where I work they do not. I work at a health institution that employs 25 doctors. The only thing they get is free lunch everyday from the drug reps, and they have to listen to their presentations to get the lunch. I know this because I work in the accounting department and I cut every check that goes to the docs.

With all the government crackdowns lately, not likely...I now have to jump through flaming hoops to get educational grants whereas before it only took a simple request letter.

Most likely just like cops get toasters depending on how many tickets they give people. It's like bribing a baby with candy.

My doctor sez that he gets lots of free med samples to give away for pushing specific meds. I don't think they get $ though.
