Nitrogen molecules are larger than the other molecules in air, such as oxygen, so the mor nitrogen you put in the tire, the longer it takes to diffuse out so your tire pressure stays in tack longer.

using nitrogen gas when our air is more than 3/4 nitrogen already is (as the article on yahoo put it) like drinking bottled water when there's a pond out back. It's a bit better. It should improve gas mileage because tires wont lose pressure as quick. tire places do need to have special equipment to fill them for you, but it shouldn't be extremely costly, and they will usually offer free refills for the service.

I read that using nitrogen in your tires can save you 1 to 1 1/2 miles per gallon.......... nitrogen is used in passenger airlines... and Indy racing cars.... etc. if you can find it.. they will know how much to put in your tires.
I checked it out where I live and they don't have it yet......
