I have tried diet changes and over 20 different migraine medications and I am currently on Topamax and Inderal. I would love to get off of these drugs and find a REAL cure, and not just hide the pain...which by the way, the meds don't even hide all of the headaches! Any other natural therapy worked for you; such as Cranial Sacral Therapy, Massages, etc.?

I did solve my tension headache through acupuncture. The physician released a few drops of blood from the forehead with a needle and I am cured. But the tension headache comes back after a few month.
For headaches, you can try yoga. There is a yoga exercise where you form a "n" shape with your hands and feet touching the ground, but not your knees. However your back faces the floor and your stomach faces the ceiling. Allow your head to drop back. Breath deeply. Do this a few times a day and whenever you have headaches.
Change your diet to acid-alkaline diet as well.

Sorry to hear about your migraines. I get them every spring triggered by pollen so I know what you're going through. Personally I wouldn't pay for acupuncture because everything I've seen says that it's placebo only, so it's not likely to help me. However, if you strongly believe in that kind of thing it might help you and anything that reduces the pain is good. Shop around and make sure you aren't paying too much and that your practitioner is reliable. I would still see a neurologist if I were you though, there may be a different underlying cause than you think. Lastly, while caffeine triggers migraines in some people, or makes the pain worse, this isn't the case for everyone. For some people, myself included, caffeine actually CURES migraine pain. This is way many OTC migraine pain relievers contain caffeine. So you may not need to cut back on your coffee. Good luck.

I have a friend who used to have severe migraines at least 28 days a month. (He had no life) That situation had been happening for several years. He did not try acupuncture, but did find relief and now experiences migraines 2 to 4 times a month down from 28 which are much more managable. What has worked for him you can find out more about at tni.com/tnnt There will be no specific claims. However, this has worked for other people I also know personally. "The One Good Thing" you can do for yourself. Wishing happy Relief to you, I can only imagine from what I've heard from others.

If you suffer from chronic migraines, it might actually be beneficial for you to see a chiropractor.

Contrary to popular belief, chiropractic deals with more than just "neck and back pain." Chiropractic is founded in the belief that the Central Nervous System (brain, spinal cord, and nerves) controls EVERY bodily function. A misalignment of the vertebrae (what chiropractic calls a subluxation) can pinch the nerves running out between them, causing pain, numbness/tingling, or any type of general malfunction in that nerve's corresponding body part. The cells of our nervous system are constantly communicating with each other and with the body, so it's very important to make sure the spine is in its proper position so the nerve impulses aren't being interfered with.

I'm not saying that this will be a definite solution to your problem, but it might be something to consider. I used to work in a chiropractic office and saw how it helped many people with chronic migraine headaches and sinus headaches. Chiropractic is a safe, non-invasive healthcare option that doesn't rely on drugs or surgery that may have potentially unwanted side effects. And it won't just mask the pain symptoms, but can actually correct malpositions of the spine (and you'll see if your chiropractor takes pre and post x-rays)!

If you DO decide to see a chiropractor, it would be in your best interest to ask family and friends for recommendations, visit a few offices and pick the doctor that you are most comfortable with. No matter what you decide to do, I sincerely hope that you start to feel better soon!

I have thought about acupuncture but insurance does not cover it. So I did some online searching and found that Cayenne Pepper seems to help. After researching a bit and a visit to the health store, I take it in capsule forms cuz otherwise it's a bit too hot for my liking. It has helped. I have been using it for about six weeks and have not had a serious migraine where I could not deal with it. Give it a shot.

I'm a migraine sufferer too, and in all my research, I've learned that there's only one thing that we all have in common: we're all different. But I will tell you what helps me.

Try increasing your magnesium intake, either through diet or with supplements. That's what's helped me the most. I also take ginger tablets (which are a great anti-inflammatory), Ginko Biloba, feverfew, and Co-Enzyme Q-10. I really need the cocktail; I've tried cutting some of them out and wind up putting it back because I feel crappy as soon as I don't take something.

Go ahead and try acupuncture if you can afford it; I've never tried it myself, but know people who swear by it. I've done some acupressure, and it does seem to help a bit.

Good luck!

I had temporary relief from the headaches and it can be very relaxing. I got permanent relief by changing my diet and eating only organic food. I have not had a headache since. I have been eating organic for about 6 years and it is hard to eat all organic, but it seemed to me that is what I had to do. Health food stores can usually help you to find good farmers who dont use antibiotics and stuff. Buying directly saves me a lot of money. In some cases cheaper than the grocery store for regular meat.

I really recommend massage therapy to help aleviate the pain of migraines. Migraines can be caused or worsened by tension and tension headaches, and a massage, especially a full-body massage, can help relieve tension and do many other things for your body to help it heal itself.

I've suffered from migraine headaches for years, and since I started massage school a year ago, the practice massages I've received from classmates have helped almost eliminate my migraines.

If nothing else, they feel really good, and you deserve that!

Good luck and good health.

My chiropractor uses PRRT and it was very effective on my headaches. I've had acupuncture for other things a long time ago and it worked - I'm a firm believer in it - sometimes it is hard to find local practitioners. . Also increase your magnesium - that really helped.

You are on the right track. Try to eliminate the underlying cause of the migraine and prevent them from even ocurring. Herbal supplements work great. This site has excellent info on this. Good luck !
