Because a couple of beers should put them around or under the legal limit. They're not gonna say I've been drinking like crazy and decided to drive anyway.

Because they lost count, and beer has a pretty low amount of alcohol compared to Vodka and stuff.

Because they think that all the police are stupid and that they can't tell how intoxicated the person is. A drunk person usually can't tell that they are showing signs of being intoxicated and they try to hide it. It doesn't work.

Because they don't believe that they are alcoholics. And until they can admit this and get help they make excuses.
