My Father had a similar condition, and I guess the answer to your question is that it depends upon the cause, but if the cause is sleep apnoea then yes there is a treatment in the form of Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP).

A doctor can make a referral to a sleep specialist to run tests, which include home oximetary or sleep observation, to assess the patient. If sleep apnoea is the cause then treatment by CPAP involves sleeping wearing an oxygen mask attached to a machine which maintains a positive airway pressure and effectively forces air into the lungs.

Look up the website of the sleep apnoea trust.

you should elevate his head, put another pillow under his head. If that still doesn't work than there are these breathing strips that you can buy at any local drug store or wal-mart, you put them over the arch of your nose at night and clears the sinuses, which is the main cause of snoring.
