I see people answer questions they think are silly with "OMG! You wasted points on this?!?" It just cracks me up. Isn't it really more important to answer & try to help than worry about points?
p.s. OMG! I just wasted points! Sorry, just wanted to make a 'point' about the true objective of this site - helping others!

Points, like MONEY are really meaningless if they were ill obtained or easily obtained. I agree completely with your thoughts on the subject. The idea is to help people with ideas, answers, solutions, experience, compassion and hope.

I'm guilty of the "OMG" syndrome too, I just don't use that phase. Sometimes- intentionally or in a vain attempt at humor or ignorance, some questions deserve a ridiculous answer!

Ideally every question should be taken sensibly but there are just some that I can't resist injecting my brand of humor into.

I don't think ridiculing anyone is ever acceptable.

The more far out an idea is the more it needs to be responded to reasonably otherwise all parties just get more entrenched in their view point.

Points aren't important at all.
After all I think none of us are in elementary school any more.

Like most things with a ranking system.. ie: points.. levels.. etc... the thing that becomes most important is being the best.. and that means more points.

I don't care about the points.. I care about people seriously answering me, and I care about seriously answering other people. But, there are more people out there that are in it for the 'points' than those who simply care.

I agree to a point, it is not about the points, but some people just ask dumb questions, like how old are you or what is my favorite color, etc. Why bother to ask such questions? About 1/2 the answers are going to be rude answers anyway.

Yeah, I think that you should try to answer questions and get your questions answered. I don't think that when Yahoo decided to start this they were like "OK, we've got a GREAT idea. We're going to make it a huge game for points." "What's going to be a huge game for points?" "Hadn't thought about that" "Maybe we should just have people ask questions and they get points for answering" "That's GENIUS!"

Points are nice, but I really feel good when I actually help someone. I've been thanked by email a few times which has really given me a warm fuzzy feeling.

I think it's way more important to help people, but sometimes the questions are so off the wall, who can help but give a dumb answer!!
