Can't tell from your inquiry where you are in school, so bear with me. If you are still in High School, you will need a strong background in math and science (especially biology and chemistry). If you are already in college, many of the schools have "prepharmacy" curriculum......pretty much guiding you into the required prerequisites for the pharmacy college(math, Biology, general chemistry, Organic chemisrty). Your best bet would be to visit a school of pharmacy and see what they have to offer.
When I was an undergrad (ie before I got into pharmacy school) I had classes with students in premed, nursing, physical therapy, and education. Some of my friends who either didn't get in either tried again the following year (how bad do you want it?) or became teachers. Two of my closest friends are science teachers teaching High School biology (including honors classes).
Again, you best bet to be properly prepared is to visit a school of pharmacy. Not every university in the US has a school of pharmacy. Check with your guidance counselor (if you are still in high school) or check with the university you are interested in applying to.
Good Luck!

Most people I know who are interested in pharmacy major in biology, biochemistry, or chemistry during their undergrad years. These majors tend to provide for good opportunities in the biotech field, if that piques your interest.
If not, don't worry. It seems to me that most of these pre-pharm folks don't really like this sort of thing later, seeing it instead as merely a stepping stone to pharm school. If they don't get in, then they're stuck with a degree in a field they hate, even if it is useful employment-wise. How dumb is that?
What I am saying is, the traditional majors provide many employment options, but it is best for you to major in something that YOU want to do. There is plenty of space in most curriculums to slip in all the pre-pharm course,s however unrelated they may me (and yes, I understand that pharm schools have all sorts of strange requirements).
Good luck.

If you don't make it as a retail pharmacist you can always be a street pharmacist.
You won't even need a degree for that.
