I'm surprised that your mother never learned to type in school--usually "older generation" women had to take typing, as they thought back then that the best job for women was to be a secretary or something. I'm "older", too, and use all my fingers as the other way is just too slow, and never look at the keyboard either except when I have to use the "z" and the "x"!

no and no. I couldn't stand to type with just the pointer fingers. Thank Goodness I had the common sense to take a keyboarding class in high school. It has saved so much time when I've had to type reports and other stuff. I'm still learning to use the numberpad though.

I was forced to take a typing class in jr high, but it never took. I'm somewhere in the middle of pecking ans real typinf. I use my pointer and middle fingers while looking at the keyboard. I seem to type faster and with less errors than doing it the real way. Guess everyone just needs to find a way that's comfortable for them.

My dad does that, I would think by now he would have learned to type properly as much time as he spends on the computer. I use all fingers and rarely look at the keyboard.

No, I don't type with pointer fingers. I only look when I need to use the $ or %. I work in accounting so I use the side 10 key for my numbers. I've never heard of "chicken pecking". It's totally what it looks like too..lol

Yes - I can do over 50 words per minute with two finger typing without looking at the keyboard.
I give credit to the typing class I took in the 6th grade.

Ironically, you are mistaken about your mother's generation not being taught how to type. While I was in elementary school (70s), computers were not in common use. In 6th grade, our school only had one Tandy computer for use by the students.
Between my 6th & 7th grade, I choose a typing class for a summer school course. ( I had to as a summer school course, because it was at the High School.) In the High School, the typing room had manual and electric typewriters, over 60 (30 of each). For summer school, it was a full class. Although I was one of the youngest kids there, there were many others who, I can only assume, realized that typing would be essential for learning computer skill.
Unfortunatly, computer classes at the time focused on programming, albeit in "basic." Took one class taught on Tandys in one city, and another taught in Apple after we moved. In both classes, I was a little quicker because I had taken a typing class.
Your mother's generation had the oppurtunity to learn to type. It is more likely that she refused to take a typing class in the mistaken belief that that she was liberating herself by not buying into the stereotypical images of women in roles like secretaries.

No, I use all fingers and don't look when I type. Your mom could use a lesson in typing. It makes things easier.
