I'm not sure Americans are the only people who think their own country is the best. I lived in the US for 13 years and found Americans to be far less cynical than Brits (I live in England). Many Brits say Britain sucks but I'd say most of these people just think it's 'cool' to say that.
On the other hand, I do think many Americans take at face value the info. their gov. and media relentlessly 'beam' at them. So maybe, a healthy dose of scepticism wouldn't be out of place.

Its opinion, just like yours.
I've travelled all over. London, France, Japan, etc..
And frankly I don't like America as much as some other places. But I have pride in being American. Just like everyone should have pride in whatever country they're from. I may not always agree with the government, or the country... but I was born here, and that's how I believe its the best country in the world. It may not be in a lot of things, and I may not like it as much as others... but telling us to not feel as we feel is as ignorant as people who never travel but then say its the best.
These are feelings, buddy, not facts. You don't always need facts for everything. I plan on travelling a lot through Europe. I want to learn more languages because I respect Europeans for knowing so many languages.
Don't stereotype us all into the "blind-patriots". I love America, I love a lot of other countries too. All countries do horrible things, just gotta learn to accept that everyone is stupid. If you don't like it somewhere.. then u don't have to live there. And once I get out of college if I would rather be somewhere else, then i will. And I kinda do. We'll just see though.
Everyone has a right to choose.

I have traveled to over 50 countries in all continents except Africa.
US is the best country... I am not biased as I was born in another country and my favorite country is Australia. Many independent groups have also concluded the same
This is based on averages of many things...
Economy, security, jobs, housing, education, communications, taxes, laws, freedom, health-care, etc.
USA may not be the best in everything... but when you average everything out, US tops the list with Australia in 2nd place.
If you go around the world, you will see American tourists everywhere, so I don't know where you get the idea that Americans don't travel. Have you ever looked at the number of US airlines and their flight routes and cities served???

It's easy to know it's a desireable country to live in without having travelled the world because there are so many more people trying to get in than trying to get out.
I have traveled to various countries and believe the US to be the best country for me; it's my favorite. It's only natural for people to have a sense of pride and affinity towards their place of origin. And for many people, what most makes a place is friends and family. If most of one's friends and family live in a given place, that place probably is the best place in the world for that person. I don't get all huffy when someone from a different country from me thinks their country is the best, because for them, I'm sure it is the best. Perhaps a little open-mindedness would help here.
That said, there are a lot of folks on the Internet who say things merely to rile others up. This is true of Americans (or "United Staters," if you will) and of any group of humans. Perhaps we should just all get a little bit thicker skins. There are definitely much worse things in the world than a pride in one's place of origin.

People are pretty much the same wherever they are from. They have the same emotions, bodily functions, hopes and desires etc.
You have to admire the American attitude - that they are that patriotic, when American foriegn policy is so dodgy, is to be admired.
I expect everyone secretly thinks their own country is the best - it's just that the Americans are more vocal about it.
To assume that anyone is wrong about this is to generalise.
Why don't we all see our little ball of mud (Earth) as a whole place, instead of breaking it down the way we do?? Very sad.

Well there is a challenge!
I am British for the record, although I have travelled extensively.
And I can tell you America is one hell of a Country - not just HUGE, but variable, true they do not seem to travel quite as much as we do, but then if there is no need, then why?
We are very fortunate in England have almost the entire Continent so conveniently nearby, the NZs and Aussies really envy us that, as must the Americans.
However lets be perfectly honest if a countryman does not feel his country is the best, the there has to be a problem! Its a bit mean to generalise, there are exception to every rule.

Good question. My answer was going to be that they haven't been exposed to other cultures or travelled abroad much, but you already mentioned that. I think it is brain-washing, you know. They did their communist witch hunting back in the Hoover days and a lot of people went along with it; they didn't even question such paranoia. Then they had a brief period of rebellion in the 60s with the hippies and the anti-war demonstrations, but someone realised how to use mass mind control so that it should never happen again. Something in the bottled water perhaps? Or something that they are taught in school - remember they are very keen on playing their national anthem at the slightest opportunity. What gives it away so totally is the sheer juvenile surprise about terrorists targeting them - "How can other people in the world hate us? We're not bad!" Perhaps there is a lot of censorship going on in that so called "free, democratic society" because the rest of the world has been seing all kinds of hideous acts done by U.S. governments both domestically and internationally for many, many years. If the people of the U.S. were shown the same things, they might become a bit more humble and try to change things for a better society. What is really scary is how Britain is trying and often succeeding to become like them - who wants to live in a country where there is no free health care? No subsidized education? No hope for the disadvantaged. That really sucks! And who wants to live in a country with one stereotyped standard of beauty and where film stars are worshipped to the extent they can influence everybody? Where it is perfectly fine to have (and sometimes even shoot) a gun, but you can't say "f--k" etc. in public? Where idiots rip off the trusting and gullible in the name of Jesus? Where there is a very high rate of illiteracy, crime and hatred? Phew, you have me rolling here! I'll just go now ... thanks the chance to blow off some steam! And no, it is NOT just you. I know lots of people who think the same as we do, and a few of them are from the U.S.

Last week my family went to an all you can eat restaurant. Before we ate we all stood up together and prayed. We didn't get shot or thrown in jail or beaten. No one even looked at us funny. There are a lot of things about other countries that I am quite sure are wonderful, but I never believed that just because the grass may look greener that it really is. Until the day when my country can not provide for my basics rights I will be forever grateful to her.

Facts are it is really screwed up here for the majority of Americans. I was born here and have live and traveled about the land and world. Most of the idiots chanting "love it or leave it rhetoric" live shallow low resourceful lives in ignorance. The younger generation is even more gullible less intelligent than the baby-boomers,hence effects of the dumbing down of the American society is real and true unfortunately! If they had any brains or guts they would not be tolerating the current controlling political and Corporate capitalistic structure fleecing them to bare-bones!
