I own 4 Desert tortoises. They were passed down to me. One is a female and was wondering how old they need to be to get pregnant. I've read quite some books on Tortoises and it doesn't tell what are the signs of a tortoise being pregnant even though I know they lay eggs. Please inform.
thanks!

Breeding age - 15 to 20 years

There is a breeding section in this great article. http://www.kingsnake.com/rockymountain/RMHPages/RMHpr03.htm
I once owned a desert tortiouse wich is a protected species and had to get a special license to possess him. I had to leave him in a great home when i moved from California. He rocked!
Anyways the breeding of desert tortoises is illegal and is only permitted with a special propagation license issued by the California Department of Fish and Game. Check your state laws.
