It depends. It could be, but some jobs/skills earn more money than those that require a college degree. It is important if your other option is working at the mall. If you would rather be a plumber, electrician, or masseuse go for it.

Why College Degree Is Important

In the overall scheme of things a degree has one main purpose. It increases you ability to earn money in your life time. Studies have shown that a Bachelor's degree can improve your earnings by 20% or more in your lifetime. It also can improve the number of jobs that you qualify for, and shows a basic level of communications ability to potential employers.
I learned the value of a degree as a young military man. All the officers had degrees and most of the enlisted men did not. I was a high school drop out and the career choices were extremely limited. I began to take courses and eventually worked my way through an Associate Degree, a Bachelors Degree and a Master's Degree. I retired from the military with a high rank and then went to work for the government using my education to secure a job with a great income, and lots of benefits. When I retire from this job I will never have to worry about where my income will come from.

It is imporrtant to have a degree, because you learn more and it helps you in the real world. I have an Associates Degree though, and even people with a bachelor's degree are having a hard time finding a job. So, it is important, so you can learn, but the jobs are going to people with no theory or schooling but "hands on" thats right. Not to discourage anyone, but I have some experience and a degree to back it up and its been five months now and I have no job, but my friends with no college degree are making bucks. Very dissapointing to us educated folk.

It's pretty much the only way to advance anymore. If you have a degree you could almost beat out anyone else for the position without a degree, just depends on what the company is looking for. Also if you look for a job most will say a degree is required. Doesn't really matter what the degree is, as long as you have one.

It was important to me to get my bachelors degree because I wouldn't be able to do anything without it. Well, I could have but it wouldn't have been what I wanted to do. I wanted to do something that dealt with animals (specifically mammals although I love studying all animals). I wouldn't have been able to do any of that without a degree. So, I went and got my bachelors degree (which is in Ecology).

I am getting ready to start grad. school to earn my MS in Zoology (emphasis ecology and mammalogy) and Entomology. This is important to me because of the types of job opportunities that I will be able to get when I am finished. I would love to work for the government and do work where I can study animals (or even help them).

Earning a college degree allows you to meet people from other countries and cultures. You can become active in your chose department (field of study) and you may meet your future spouse on campus! Take part in activities, sports and other areas of interest. Definitely network as your professors and advisor will help you secure employment after you graduate! Oh yeah, you'll also accrue debt when you take out student loans.
Go Aggies!

Because we live in a competitive world and being the best and having a degree is very important to ur future progression and it determines your position in the future. Means higher wages, better house and a better life. It means progression. Both for yourself and future family.

having a degree doesn't guarantee you a higher pay, but what it does is increase your chances, so just for that I would think it is important. Will it mean that you are smarter? Not necessarily, it would probably mean that you would be more cultured and exposed to the intellectual world out there.
